This is Jennifer Stirling- Campbell with the Overcome Depression podcast. Tune in. I'm going to try to do really short five to 10 minute episodes. Just me talking solo. They'll be lower cased. uh they, if you're looking at the titles, they'll be lower cased while my main episodes with often guests, part of the program, the Overcome Depression program will be, will be capitalized and have a number at beginning of it showing the number of the episode for the program. I am also not going to be editing any of these shorter episodes, so they're just kind of going to be what they are, which will be actually pretty difficult for me because I'm such a perfectionist. I love things to be done well. I love for them to be edited and polished. And these aren't going to be. I'm not going to be doing social media posts about these. I'm not going to be making any artwork for them. or posting content on my website. These are literally just, record, I throw them up so that there's something for you guys to be listening to hopefully every week. Again, short and sweet on different topics, possibly a lot of health related topics because physical health and mental health are so closely related. And I did not realize that when I was 25 years depressed, I thought that The physical side of things was just a bunch of hooey and whatever and I eat fine. I did not realize how sick my body was until I started educating myself. And so that's what I'm here trying to do regularly while I get my family in order. And again, I'm going to be focusing on my babies for a while. And so I just wanted to make sure that I continue to produce something. that could be of benefit while I'm not necessarily producing my main episodes. I've got about three months to six months of episodes already recorded and I'll be editing those because the longer ones, unedited, tend to just get too long and I want them to be easy to listen to because they're longer. But again, these shorter ones are just going to be what they are and unfiltered, raw, just gen talking. And so without further ado, I want to talk a little bit about the mouth. And there's a lot of, I wouldn't say a lot, there's kind of a newer modality out there of bio dentistry. And they talk a lot about how important the health of the mouth is for the entire body. can tell the health of the body from the health of the mouth and even from the perspective of my dog. So I know from research and so forth that if you can keep your dog's mouth clean, I buy this product I put in his water. and I brush his teeth every day. And even while I've had my new baby, one of the things on my list of to-dos, if my mom's here, she does it for me, or if she's not, I do it, is I brush my dog's teeth. Because that's the one thing that I can do that will extend his life more than any other thing. And I don't think it's any different for humans. If you can keep your mouth clean, it affects the rest of your body and your mental health. uh from a, and again, these are gonna be short, so I'm not gonna be going into huge depths uh about some of these topics, I'm just gonna throw it out there, but amalgam fillings. Biodentists don't do that, they don't do root canals, and there's good reason for that. A root canal is basically a dead piece of tissue, and it's not tissue, whatever it is, dead, and it's being left in your mouth, and there's nothing they can do to clean it enough to keep it from continually decaying. And so what you're basically doing if you get a root canal is you are signing up for some kind of medical issues related to that down the road. There's a movie called Root Cause that I haven't actually watched, but I've heard it's very good at explaining how that all works. If you're interested in some of the science behind it and real life stories, Root Cause, okay? But I have a friend who got into health later in life and had had quite a few root canals and she's actually saving her money so she can get all of them ripped out and get implants. But it really is that big of a deal where I would rather have a tooth extracted and fork out the money for an implant, go into debt if I had to, rather than put or leave a dead tooth in my mouth. That is, it's just one of those things that it's touted as fine. Everybody does it. I would encourage you to never, ever allow a root canal in your mouth. And if you've already got one, Do some research, find out, decide if that's something you want to explore down the road of getting rid of that. So with that said, amalgam fillings, mercury, again, they'll say, oh, it's not a big deal. I don't think it's ever a good thing to put something with mercury in your mouth, let alone, there's other things out there with mercury in them that we like to avoid, like certain fish. Overdoing it that way we got to be careful of the how much fish we eat with that kind of thing with tuna mercury So why are we putting it in our mouth? I don't know. I don't know why everyone anyone ever thought that was okay but again, I would rather pay the extra for the Clear whatever they call it that they do uh Okay, so tooth care I was really struggling with gingivitis years ago and Wasn't sure why, I brushed, I flossed, what's the deal? And it didn't seem to matter how well I cleaned my mouth, it was still an issue. And once I started taking juice plus vitamins, which is a food grade, I mean, not food grade, but it comes from food. They literally juice fruits and vegetables, put it in a capsule. That's what you want. You don't want most of the synthesized vitamins out there, believe me. They're hard on your system. They'll give you what you need in the short term. But in the long term, they kind of act like drugs because they're not, they're chemically made. They're not derivatives of food. So when I started taking juice plus vitamins, the inflammation in my gums went way down, like way down. I was shocked at how much just taking a supplement that had good quality vitamins and minerals in it could make on my mouth. Second of all, I got a water pick and started using that every night. My teeth are kind of... They're not really square. They're more like football shaped. So things can get kind of stuck up there. Even when I do floss and I do brush really well. So the water pick is part of my routine now. I do it at the end of every day. I also have a sulka brush and you can look up online videos of how to use a sulka brush. I believe it's S-U-L-C-A and you just kind of brush it around the gum line. And of course I do floss and I use a silk floss because a lot of the flosses out there, have plastics in them and you're rubbing in your mouth and it's just one extra way we can get plastic into our body that I would rather not do. So I went on Amazon and I found some silk made from silk floss and I used that. And you can find it relatively inexpensive. It's just a big wad of silk in a little bottle that comes with it that you can fill it in. What's the brand I have? I'm going to look because I don't remember. It is called Hemley Home Peace Silk Floss. Plant-based. Love it. The other thing that I use and I do this twice a day is a, what is it called? A tongue scraper. And I'll do this after I do oil pulling. And I actually wrote an article about oil pulling on my website. I will link that in the description of this podcast. You can read it if you want to. It's got some great links. so first thing in the morning when I wake up, go to the bathroom, I'll put coconut oil in my mouth, about a tablespoon of it, and swish it around for 20 minutes. This means I'm a mute for 20 minutes, which means I can't really talk. My toddler gets really frustrated with me. like, don't do that, no. And I'm like, sorry, dude, too important. Gotta take care of my mouth. but it kills if you do it for 20 minutes and you don't want it to be too long or too less. It's ideal to do 20 minutes according to John Baron on his website. I love his stuff. He's very thorough in his articles and research. And there's people who will say five minutes is great. And that's fine if you only have five minutes, but 20 minutes is kind of that magic number where it kills off the, it kills the bacteria in your mouth. You spit it out and then you brush and then you use the the tongue scraper afterwards to try to get it all out, kind of out. cause you don't want to ingest it after it's killed the bacteria or you, if you do it much more than 20 minutes, you're kind of reabsorbing some of that stuff and the toxins. So you really do want to make it around 20 minutes. And that's, that's just part of my morning routine. And I've done it for years and it really does make a difference. I'm surprised how white my teeth are without really doing much else. The other thing that I do like to do is I buy Dr. Ginger's powdered toothpaste with white charcoal and nano-hydroxyapatite. And that does seem to whiten my teeth also. And I really don't do much else, but people are often commenting about how white my teeth are. And the toothpaste that I like, as long as it doesn't have fluoride or sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, those are the foaming agents, they're not good for you. I would avoid them. All the toothpaste I have, babies can swallow. You know, without any ill effects. And so I really like the whitening tooth polish from Mililuca. I love the Ayurvedic toothpaste and I really like Sprite with the xylitol. But I was told by a dental assistant that with the xylitol it's great. And I also love xylitol gum. And I buy that and I try to buy the gum that is plant-based that doesn't have like the plastics in it, Again, for the same reason for the floss. But xylitol works best if you use it maybe one or two toothpaste bottles and then you take a break. So I'll do xylitol-based toothpaste, maybe one to two tubes, sorry, not bottles, and then I'll go to the aravidic toothpaste, which does not have xylitol in it, and use that toothpaste for a while until the tube's used up and then go back to the xylitol because If you use xylitol too much, the bacteria start to evolve around it, is what I'm told. just food for thought there. And so my toothbrush routine in the morning, again, it's oil pulling first, then the tongue, the tongue brush, then in teeth brush. And at night I use the water pick, the sulka brush, obviously brush my teeth and floss. And that's... I mean, it's pretty, it takes me maybe six, seven minutes to do my whole two, two, three routine in the evening, in the morning, 20 minutes plus just the brush and the, and the, uh, the tongue scraper, which doesn't take a lot of time extra if you're just walking around doing what you do with oil in your mouth. It's just annoying when you can't talk. But I did find kind of funny when I first started doing this, I had my now 18 year old and 16 year old and they fought quite a bit, would say. uh More than the average child, maybe I'm just biased. I don't know. Seemed like they fought a lot. And when I had that oil in my mouth, I could not intervene. When they were fighting and trying to get my attention, I mean, I could not intervene. But what was interesting is that by that time that 20 minutes was over, they had often figured it out themselves and without my help or intervention, solved their problems. And so that was eye-opening to me that, they really don't need me as much as I think they do. I don't need to be interjecting and trying to solve their fights. They can work this out. And so it was actually a really good exercise that forced me to shut up for 20 minutes because I was forced to because I couldn't talk with oil in my mouth and they would make fun of me sometimes. Like they'd call me names and I'd be like, lesson there for anyone listening, any parent, it'd be good for you to do oil pulling just for that alone. And I do add a product called Dental Pro 7 to my coconut oil for oil pulling. It's not cheap, but it's an essential oil blend that I think just helps additionally kill off the bacteria in your mouth. It's specifically for gingivitis, and I really like it. So I'll put a link to that as well. I'll put a link to all these products. in the description of this podcast. So with that said, if there's just one thing you want to add to your routine based on this podcast and what I've talked about today, just think about one thing you want to add to your tooth routine. It doesn't have to be everything that I've told you, but maybe just pick one and do that. Whether it's I'm going to take better vitamins, I'm going to use the sulka brush, I'm going to get a water pick, I'm going to buy one of those products Jen said. and just try it out and see if you don't feel a difference. Again, this is important for overcoming depression because when we're loading ourselves up with all these products with toxins and chemicals that maybe we don't think are a big deal, but when you put it all together between the food and the cleaning things that we use and the laundry detergents and the toothpaste, it just, it could become such a load on our bodies and our minds that it's hard not to be depressed. And this has been something that, again, I didn't always believe. I thought it was who we whatever, who cares, until I started to heal from my diet. And I talk about that, I think in my second podcast, podcast number two, if you've never heard my story, go back to episode two. And I will tell you what changed my mind about why... I might be suffering from depression and how my diet was affecting me, but it's like total fluke accident after sincere prayer of wanting to know, wanting solutions because nothing I was doing was working. And it's quite a miraculous story. And I want you to find your miracle story and share it with me when you start to heal as well. So thank you for listening today. Again, these podcasts that I'm going to be producing are going to be a lot simpler, a lot shorter. and just probably solo for a while and we'll start putting out the longer episodes as I can get them edited. And again, those will be in bold with a number in front, but these shorter ones will just be, you know, the weekly, hello, here's something you can try. And with that said, thank you for listening. This is the Overcome Depression Podcast. You are listening to Jennifer Stirling- Campbell. We will see you next time.
